How much weight should my baby gain in the first few weeks after delivery?

It is normal for babies to lose up to 7% of their birth weight in the first few days of life. They should return to this weight or surpass it by the second week mark - after this time most breastfed babies gain around 170 g (60 ounces) per week. If you are concerned that your baby is not growing or gaining weight, please contact your healthcare provider and make sure you are keeping up with your infant milestone examinations.
