Are artificial sweeteners like aspartame bad for our health?

Aspartame is found in approximately 6000 different products including: gum, diet drinks, Starbucks drinks, yogurt, baked goods, condiments and cereals. Excellent marketing campaigns have people believe that using diet drinks can help lose weight; however, studies have shown that people can actually gain more weight. Aspartame is 200 times sweeter than regular sugar which increases our taste bud receptor’s craving sugar. The phenylalanine and methanol components of aspartame also increase the dopamine levels in the brain which can lead to cravings and addiction. Studies and other literature show a whole host of neurological conditions including headaches, migraines, dizziness, and tumors that aspartame has been associated with.
