What is postpartum psychosis?

Postpartum psychosis is a rare medical condition experienced by 1-2 out of a 1000 women in the postpartum period. This condition can involve hallucinations, suicidal thoughts, or attempts to harm the infant. With postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis, pharmaceutical intervention may be required and can offer relief. If you have a family history of postpartum depression or psychosis, let your healthcare provider know prior to delivery so they can monitor you appropriately.
